The Harris County Ballot Is Now Complete

On Saturday, August 15, 2020, the Harris County Democratic Party convened a CEC (County Executive Committee) meeting for all current precinct chairs. One of the goals of this meeting was to select the Democratic Party’s nominees for two openings on the ballot—the County Clerk, vacated in May by Diane Trautman due to illness, and the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE), At-Large, Position 7, vacated by Andrea Duhon upon her appointment to the board to fill a vacancy for Precinct 3. Teneshia Hudspeth was voted almost unanimously to be the nominee for County Clerk, and David W. Brown won a very close election for the HCDE position. Now let’s make sure they win in November!

For the full list of candidates appearing on ballots this November in southwest Houston, visit our candidate guide.

Candidate Free-for-All - February 2020

Civics 101 - January 2020 Meeting

We held our biannual Civics 101 presentation, answering burning questions like: what is a precinct? What is a Senate District and why is there a convention? How does this all relate to me?

We covered the basics as we ramp up for a critical year. We discussed the club's plans for 2020 and took nominations for the Board election to be held in February.

2019 Block Walks

We kicked things into high gear for the November 2019 election and the December 2019 runoff. We held block walks every weekend and knocked on thousands of doors all over southwest Houston, including taking part in “The Biggest Block Walk Ever!”. As always, our volunteers had a lot of fun talking to voters and we were lucky enough to capture some of the moments on camera.

2019 Runoff Election - Democratic Candidates

You didn’t think we were done yet, did you? We’re on to round two—the runoffs! On December 14th we will be making our final decision on who we want to serve as Mayor; all five at-large council positions; local districts C, F, and J; and Houston Community College District 1. Thankfully, there are Democrats running in every one of those races, and this is our opportunity to get them all elected! We encourage you to choose your candidate from the list below.

October 2019 Meeting and GOTV Launch

For our October 2019 club meeting, we met at Teotihuacan Mexican Restaurant on West Bellfort, where we feasted on a selection of delicious breakfast tacos. We heard from many of the candidates running in the municipal elections, as well as many of the candidates running in the 2020 Democratic primary. After the meeting, we passed out turf packets for people to knock on the doors of targeted voters, with a focus on homes in District K.

2019 Election - Democratic Candidates

We cannot allow City Hall to fall into the hands of regressive Republicans, with their attacks on equal rights and phony claims of fiscal responsibility. As we've seen from Republicans at the state and federal levels, they only make the financial situation worse. We cannot allow that to happen locally.

Therefore we encourage you to choose your candidates in the 2019 election from this list. A downloadable PDF version can be found here: 2019 Election - Democratic Candidates

Southwest Apartment Outreach & Municipal Candidate Free-For-All | September 28, 2019

First, we heard from Greg Wythe, Director of the APT PAC. Greg and this newly-formed PAC are focused on increasing Democratic voter turnout from area apartments.

We then moved right into an extended candidate introduction session. Each Democratic municipal candidate was invited to come and speak for a minute and a half. We supplied everyone in attendance a "cheat sheet" with each candidate's party affiliation.

We also endorsed the following candidates who are the only Democrats running their respective races:
